战国时期，魏国有一位名叫庞葱的大臣。
有一天，他要陪同魏太子去赵国当人质。
在离开之前，他对魏王说：“假如有人告诉您市集上有吃人的老虎，您会相信吗？”
魏王回答：“当然不会。”
庞葱又问：“如果又有一个人也这么说，您会相信吗？”
魏王还是摇头。
然后，庞葱接着说：“如果有第三个人跟您说同样的话，您会不会开始相信呢？”
这次，魏王点了点头，表示他会相信了。
庞葱解释道：“其实，大街上是不会出现老虎的，这是很明显的事实。但是，如果有很多人都这样说，就会让人误以为是真的。”
庞葱担心在他离开后，有人会在魏王面前说他的坏话。
他恳求魏王要明察真相，不要被谣言所蒙蔽。
魏王答应了他的请求。
果然，在庞葱离开之后，有好几个人在魏王面前说他的不是。
等庞葱和太子回国后，魏王就疏远了庞葱，不再重用他。
这个故事告诉我们，谣言一再重复，就可能会让人信以为真。
所以，后来人们就用“三人成虎”这句成语来比喻谣言可以掩盖真相。
During the Warring States period, there was a high-ranking official named Pang Cong in the State of Wei.
One day, he had to accompany the crown prince of Wei to the State of Zhao as a hostage.
Before leaving, he said to King Wei, "If someone tells you that there is a man-eating tiger in the market, will you believe it?"
King Wei replied, "Of course not."
Pang Cong asked again, "What if another person also says so? Will you believe it then?"
King Wei still shook his head.
Then, Pang Cong continued, "What if a third person tells you the same thing? Will you start to believe it?"
This time, King Wei nodded, indicating that he would believe it.
Pang Cong explained, "In fact, there will never be a tiger on the street. This is an obvious fact. However, if many people say so, it can deceive others into believing it is true."
Pang Cong worried that after he left, someone would speak ill of him in front of King Wei.
He begged King Wei to see through the truth and not be deceived by rumors.
King Wei agreed to his request.
Sure enough, after Pang Cong left, several people spoke ill of him in front of King Wei.
When Pang Cong and the crown prince returned to their country, King Wei distanced himself from Pang Cong and no longer trusted him.
This story teaches us that repeated rumors may make people believe them to be true.
So later, people used the idiom 'Three Men Make a Tiger' to比喻rumors can cover up the truth.
