A fox named Fred accidentally fell into a deep well.
He struggled to climb out, but the walls of the well were too slippery and he couldn't get up.
So Fred had no choice but to sit at the bottom of the well and wait for rescue.
On this day, a billy goat named George was looking for water. He was very thirsty.
Suddenly, he found a well and sitting at the bottom of it was Fred.
George asked Fred if the well water was good to drink.
Fred was secretly happy. He knew his chance had come.
He calmed down and told George that the well water was the best in the world, sweet and refreshing.
He also encouraged George to hurry down and enjoy it together.
George only wanted to drink water, so without thinking much, he jumped into the well.
He drank deeply from the well water and was very satisfied.
However, when he finished drinking, he found that he couldn't climb out of the well.
So he and Fred thought of a way together.
Fred's eyes lit up with an idea.
He said, 'George, you can use your front hooves to grip the walls of the well and then straighten your horns.
I can step on your hind legs, jump onto your back, and then jump out of the well with force from your horns.
Then I can pull you up and we'll both be saved.'
George thought this was a good idea, so he did as Fred said.
Fred successfully jumped out of the well.
But he didn't plan to pull George up. Instead, he was ready to leave alone.
George accused Fred of not keeping his promise.
Fred turned back to George and said,
'Friend, if your brain was as perfect as your beard, you wouldn't have blindly jumped down without seeing the exit.'
This story tells us that smart people should think carefully about the consequences of things before making decisions.
