Long, long ago, there was a king named King Liang Hui.
He had a cook who was very good at cooking. Everyone called him Cook Dao.
One day, Cook Dao was going to kill a cow for King Liang Hui.
He gently touched the blade with his fingers and leaned his knee on the cow's body.
With a 'click', the hide and bones separated!
King Liang Hui saw this and was very surprised. He asked Cook Dao, "How did you do that?"
Cook Dao smiled and said, "Because I already understand the principle of using a knife."
Cook Dao continued, "When I first started learning to slaughter cows, I saw the whole cow and didn't know where to start. But after three years of study, I began to see only the tendons and bones of the cow. Now, I don't need to look to feel the bone structure of the cow. I can easily move my knife."
He also said, "There are gaps between the bone joints of the cow, and my knife is very sharp. I use this thin knife to cut into these gaps, which is very easy. So even though I have been using this knife for nineteen years and killed thousands of cows, it is still as new as ever and has not broken at all."
This story later became an idiom - Adept at Cutting.
It tells us that as long as we follow nature in what we do, we can do it well without feeling nervous or difficult.
