A long, long time ago, there was a god named Hermes.
He wanted to know how popular he was among humans, so he turned into an ordinary person and entered a sculptor's shop.
In this shop, Hermes saw many statues.
He first saw the statue of Zeus, so he asked the sculptor, "How much does this statue cost?"
The sculptor replied, "This statue only costs one silver coin."
Then, Hermes saw the statue of Hera, and he smiled and asked the sculptor, "And how much does this statue cost?"
The sculptor replied, "This statue is a bit more expensive than the last one."
Finally, Hermes saw his own statue, and thought to himself, "I am the messenger of the gods, and also the god who brings wealth and good luck. My statue should be very valuable!"
So he pointed to his own statue and asked the sculptor, "How much does this statue cost?"
But the sculptor's answer surprised Hermes greatly.
The sculptor said, "If you buy those two statues, I will give you this statue for free."
This story teaches us that people who like to show off are often not respected by others.
