孟子是一个很会说话的人，他住在战国的时候。
他懂很多东西，也会用故事来说服国王。
有一次，孟子看到齐王做事情没有坚持自己的想法，还听信坏人的话，他觉得齐王这样做不对。
于是，他对齐王说：“你这么做太傻了！你知道吗？即使是最坚强的生物，如果放在太阳下晒一天，然后在冷的地方冻十天，它也活不下来。我虽然不能一直在你身边，但如果你听了坏人的话，就会变得没有主见。这可怎么办呢？”
接着，孟子又讲了一个故事：“下棋看起来很简单，但如果不用心，就学不会。奕秋是全国最会下棋的人，他教了两个学生。其中一个学生一直认真听奕秋的话，另一个学生却总想射天鹅。虽然他们都是奕秋的学生，但是他们的成绩却相差很大。这是因为他们的用心程度不同。”
所以，后来的人就把孟子说的话简化成了“一暴十寒”，用来比喻做事情没有恒心，总是半途而废。
Mencius was a very eloquent person. He lived during the Warring States period.
He knew many things and could also use stories to persuade kings.
Once, when Mencius saw that King Qi did not stick to his own ideas and listened to bad people, he thought it was wrong for King Qi to do so.
So he said to King Qi, "You are too silly to do this! Do you know? Even the strongest creatures will not survive if they are exposed to the sun for one day and then frozen in a cold place for ten days. Although I cannot always be by your side, if you listen to bad people, you will become indecisive. What should we do about this?"
Then, Mencius told another story: "Playing chess seems simple, but if you don't concentrate, you won't learn. Yi Qiu is the best chess player in the country. He taught two students. One student always listened carefully to Yi Qiu's words, while the other always wanted to shoot swans. Although they were both Yi Qiu's students, their achievements were vastly different. This is because of their different levels of concentration."
Therefore, later generations simplified what Mencius said into 'one storm, ten cold', which is used to比喻 doing things without perseverance and always giving up halfway.
