Once upon a time, there was a fox named Fred.
One day, while playing in the forest, he accidentally got caught in a trap and his tail was squeezed off. He cried out in pain.
By the time he managed to escape, his tail had already been broken off.
Fred felt very ashamed. He felt like he had lost a part of himself along with his tail.
He started to try all sorts of ways to cover up this flaw and no longer showed himself confidently in front of other animals as before.
One day, Fred came up with an idea.
He gathered all the foxes and told them that tails were not only unattractive but also made them carry a cumbersome thing around.
He said, "Friends, if none of us have tails, then we are all the same. I won't feel embarrassed for not having a tail anymore."
However, a fox named Susan stepped forward. She said to Fred, "Fred, if it's not for your own benefit, would you work so hard to persuade us to cut off our tails?"
After hearing Susan's words, the other foxes nodded in agreement one after another.
They all understood that everyone has their own characteristics and strengths, and they should not change themselves because of others' opinions.
In the end, Fred realized this truth. He no longer felt ashamed for not having a tail, but instead treasured his uniqueness even more.
He also realized that true confidence comes from accepting and appreciating his differences.
This story tells us not to easily change ourselves because of others' opinions. Everyone has their own unique value.
We should respect and cherish our own characteristics because that is where our individuality lies.
