Once upon a time, there was a shepherd named Peter. Every day, he would take his flock of sheep to graze in the pasture.
One day, he found that several wild mountain goats had mixed in with his flock.
In the evening, Peter drove all the sheep back to the pen.
The next day, a big storm came, and Peter couldn't take the flock to the pasture. He had to keep them in the pen instead.
He gave only a little food to his own sheep, just enough to keep them from starving.
But to make those wild mountain goats stay and become his own, Peter gave them lots of food.
After the rain stopped, Peter took all the sheep to the pasture again.
When they reached the foot of the mountain, all the wild mountain goats ran away.
Peter was very angry. He accused the wild mountain goats of being ungrateful, for running away after receiving special treatment.
The wild mountain goats stopped and replied, "That's why we have to be careful. You were especially kind to us who just arrived yesterday, but not so much to your old friends. This makes us think that if new wild mountain goats come, you will neglect us again and favor them."
This story teaches us that the friendship of those who love novelty and hate the old is unreliable.
Because even if they've known you for a long time, once they have new friends, they'll forget about their old ones.
