A long, long time ago, the king of the universe, Zeus, wanted to choose a king for all the birds.
He set a date and told all the birds to come see him on that day dressed in their best.
All the birds were very happy. They ran to the river to take a bath and comb their feathers, preparing to show their best selves on that day.
But there was one bird, a jackdaw, who was very sad.
Because his feathers were not beautiful at all. He felt that he could never be king.
So the jackdaw came up with an idea.
He secretly went to the river and picked up the beautiful feathers that other birds had dropped. He carefully stuck them on his body and glued them in place.
In this way, he looked like a beautiful bird.
On the appointed day, all the birds came before Zeus.
Zeus immediately saw the colorful jackdaw. He thought the jackdaw was the most beautiful bird and decided to make him king.
But the other birds were very angry.
They found that the feathers on the jackdaw were theirs, so they plucked out the feathers that belonged to them from the jackdaw's body.
As a result, the jackdaw lost all his beautiful feathers and turned back into an ugly jackdaw.
This story tells us that using other people's things can make us look more beautiful, but it is only an illusion.
Once those things that do not belong to us are taken away, we will reveal our true form.
So we should be our true selves and not imitate others.
